What the Bleep Do We Know. 2004

It’s difficult to consider movies with a Law of Attraction theme without thinking of a few films that have become classics in the field of manifestation.  ”What the Bleep Do We Know” is one of those films that comes to mind.  If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it.  And, be prepared to want to watch this movie more than once.

Technically, it is a documentary, but the story flows between a fictional character, a photographer played by Marlee Matlin, and varied interviews with noted experts in the field of quantum physics and the Law of Attraction.

Matlin’s character, fresh out of a failed relationship. feels lost and confused.  She travels through her day and meets a few new characters.  One poignant moment happens early in the movie, when she meets a kid on the basketball court who teaches her a few things about quantum physics.  Her self-induced fog begins to lift as she opens her eyes to a new way of looking at the world around her.  There are some great scenes with her alter-ego roommate played by Elaine Hendrix, who pushes Matlin’s character to the limit with her fresh and innocent view of the world.  My personal favorite is the wedding sequence, which vividly illustrates the concept of being addicted to emotions.  If you haven’t seen “What the Bleep Do We Know” yet, treat yourself to this unconventional and thought provoking film.

Last Holiday, 2006

I was a bit under the weather and took some time to enjoy one of my favorite movie genres, comedy.  I’ve always thought that Queen Latifah is a great actress in her roles.  There is a genuineness to her comedic talents that comes through in the parts she plays.  So, I thought I would enjoy the movie.  I did, and to my surprise, not only did I think it was a great and fun movie, I discovered it had an element of the Law of Attraction.

In one of the early scenes, Queen Latifah’s character, a department store clerk named Georgia Byrd opens her “book of possibilities”.  It’s a place she keeps her secret dreams for her future.  It’s hard to imagine how her hesitant and dreary life will lead to those dreams coming true.  Yet, somehow, you know that there’s a lot more to her than just a secret crush on a grill salesman and her love of cooking.

Given just weeks to live, she releases herself from fear and inhibition and takes off on a dream trip to Europe.  The trip is straight from her book of possibilities.  Once she arrives at The Hotel Pupp, she becomes the mystery woman in the middle of some hilarious antics with a chef, Congressman, a Senator, a retail magnate, and his mistress.  All the while, leading herself closer to turning her book of possibilities into a book of realities.

Georgia’s book and the way she begins to turn her dreams into reality will strike a chord with even a casual observer of the Law of Attraction.  Last Holiday is a fun uplifting movie on many levels.

As I discover other movies with elements of the Law of Attraction, I’ll review them here.

As the end of the work week rolled in, I found myself with a stiff neck, congestion, headache and well, a cold.  I often say, “I don’t get sick”.  Truthfully, I seldom do.  But, for whatever reason, germ or mindset as it may be, here I sit, a little stuffy, a little slow and faced with a change of weekend plans.  I shall not dwell on the negative, especially here.  What sort of Law of Attraction blog would I be publishing if I spent energy focusing on the negatives of the common cold?  So, instead, here is a list of some of the good things that happened for me this weekend as a result of having a cold.

1. I spent more time with my dog and my bird.

2. I got lots of sleep.

3. I took a long hot bath.

4. I drank some delicious cherry tea.

5. I watched a Queen Latifah movie, I’ve been meaning to watch for a very long time, “The Last Holiday”.

6. I discovered how comfy my couch is to lie on.

7. I learned to appreciate the warmth of flannel sheets.

8. I got lots of sleep.  Oh yeah, I already said that.

Can you have action without intention?  Sure, I suppose so.  But, action without holding your mind on the feeling of an outcome, is sluggish at best.  Think about it, you can walk for miles but may not get to your destination if you don’t know where you are walking to.

Think of where you want to be in your life, what dream life you have intended for yourself.  It is getting in touch with that feeling, that vibrational energy that will draw the outcome of your desires to you, even before any measurable action is taken.

Here is an example that might be helpful, especially if you cook or have ever followed a recipe.  Most people have an idea in mind when they read a recipe of what the outcome will be.  Often there is a photo of the dish.  Let’s say you are making chocolate chip cookies.  You see a picture on the recipe.  Or, you use your imagination and visualize what the cookies will look like when you are done.  So, it is not just the actions, or mixing the ingredients that’s part of the process.  It is that image, that visualization that’s also important.

It reminds me of a cliche, one about a recipe for success.  You can modify that cliche for your own personal and wonderful desires, and have a recipe for your dream life.

How was your weekend? Mine was great.

How are your weekends in general?  If you work a typical Monday through Friday work week, do you find your weekends to be more fun than the weekdays?  If you find your weekends more fun, you can try to bring some of that weekend energy to your week.  How?  It can be a simple as remembering.  Remember the feeling of a great day, a great time.  And, anytime your vibrational energy gets low, just remember that beautiful weekend.  Let it bring a smile to your soul.

Here is a simple little exercise packed with power.

First.  What feels worst in your life?  Honestly, what popped into your head right away when you read that sentence?  Don’t edit that thought.  Stick with it for a moment, feel it.  It is the contrast.  It is the yin of that popular phrase, the yin and the yang.  It is the “what you don’t want”, that gift that helps you know clearly what you do want.

Now have you been with that thought for a moment, how does it feel?  Stay with it for a little while, then continue reading.

OK, time now to move to the yang.  And, yes you can do this part. To move into feeling what you do want, think of the opposite of what you thought first.  Got it?  Now, be as specific as possible as you think about it.  Say it out loud.  What is that opposite that you crave?  How would it feel to be there right now?

When you have a a sense of a better feeling, stay with it, play with it in your head.  Let yourself feel better and experience the opposite of that earlier negative thought.  You may hang out in this place as long as you like.

If you can’t switch from yin to yang and easily as the other way around, keep practicing. This is a simple and powerful exercise you can do with a just a thought and few moments of time. The more you do it the easier it becomes.

And, it is a perfectly wonderful thing if instead of moving to an opposite place of that negative feeling, you instead just move a little farther away from it.  And, the more you practice, the closer you come to your dreams.

Just a little bit of synchronicity to share.

On Monday, I think to myself, I would really like a new Macbook computer.  If you read my blogs, you may remember that I am using one now for a project.  It is not mine and eventually I will turn it back in.  I love using it and see myself using one in the future.  I have thought for a while that a newer version may be coming out and that I’d wait to consider purchasing one after the newest version.  Apple always keeps those releases a secret.

So, on Monday, I am out for a walk, and decide that I’m going to walk to the Apple store.  So, I walk to the store.  In the midst of Ipods, Iphones, desktops and notebooks, I see the Macbooks.  Nothing new here, the same model I am using for work.  A great computer for sure, but not the newer version that I know will be coming eventually.  I know that a newer and better version will be coming out and whenever it does, I desire it.

Guess what, the very next day, a new Macbook is released.  I get an email from a friend.  And from the photos, it’s hot.  So it’s just a matter of time before one becomes mine.  I’ve already put my order in with the universe.

There is something important about observation and the Law of Attraction.  It’s important where we focus our attention and where we choose to look.  Today I had a funny moment.  I was engaged in conversation with two colleagues I’ve work on projects with for months.

We were reviewing a challenging meeting we had all been in.  One of my colleagues described me in the meeting, saying that I was “getting fixed”.  Huh?  I turned my head, catching her clasp the top button on her blouse, indicating that’s what I did with my shirt.  I made a quick mental note, and thought to myself, is that something I do?

Then a few minutes later, describing a particular tense moment in the meeting, another colleague said, “and before you answered, you got yourself together”. She made a similar gesture indicating adjusting the top buttons on a shirt.

Hmm, some food for thought for me.  I never realized that I have a habit of adjusting my shirt buttons in tense moments.

“Do I always do that,” I asked?  ”Yes”, came the response in unison.  So, I will observe myself a little more closely and see if I find myself reaching for my buttons next time I feel pressure.

Do you ever wonder if there are things you do that you’re not aware of?

At some core level in our being, at some universal understanding of the universe, we know that anything is possible.  The clutter of everyday life sometimes obscures this universal truth.  We can get stuck in “fact”, what we’ve been taught, and how we and others send out intentions and then interpret the results.  Every so often though, the universe sends us a zippy little message to remind us of the great possibilities available.

Here is a wonderful reminder that things are not always as we have believed.  A fact may not be a fact afterall.   At the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, scientist have confirmed the second virgin birth by a shark.   Specifically, scientists confirmed a female Atlantic blacktip shark named Tidbit had a virgin birth.  And, yes I said this was the second such birth.  The first known virgin shark birth occurred in Omaha, Nebraska. Sharks do not give birth to pups (shark babies) without the coupling of a male and female.  At least, that’s what all the marine biology textbooks teach.  But, now there are two documented case to the contrary.

You see, anything is possible, and sometimes in the place you least expect it, like at an aquarium in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  Just ask Tidbit.

I wrote a post just a few minutes ago as I sit at a coffee shop.  It was about the contrast between good news and bad news, and a few glimmers of hopefulness I inadvertently heard on CNBC this morning.  There was even one reference to the law of attraction, with a commentator saying, “we are making this worse with our extreme negativity”.  So, I get ready to post it and “zap”, my wireless connection isn’t there.  And, in the process of logging back on, I loose the post.

I shall just chalk it up to the universe conspiring with me to keep that post off my blog.  So, I will trust that this brief summary will suffice and I think, maybe I don’t need another good news, bad news example on here today.  Or at least not one as detailed as I originally wrote.

Here’s to having a wonderful weekend full of joy and fun and focusing on all of the great things in our marvelous world.
