Yes, there are great movies with uplifting messages.  And yes, there are easily identifiable dark movies that can lower your vibrational energy faster than the bloody corpse that jumps out from the corner of the screen.  Some of it is subjective.  Much of the visual entertainment media falls somewhere in between.

I often advise taking a news holiday.  The stories and images can create a dark sense of reality, and often the news media is stuck in a place of contrast with few stories leading elsewhere.  It can be helpful and uplifting to avoid this negativity.

After watching a few movies lately, I realize that the same can be said of movies, television and much of that sort of media.  Notice the themes and underlying messages of the movies you find yourself watching.  Do they keep you stuck in a place you don’t want to be?  Do they reinforce a negative stereotype of your world?  Even a seemingly bright romantic-comedy can have the underpinnings of a tragedy, or send a message about how difficult life can be.

Watch and notice.  If something feels comfortable but low to you, maybe it is to be avoided.  Follow the path that leads to joy, and that includes which line to choose at the multiplex.
