“The King of Pop.”
Even if he hadn’t died this week, odds are that you would know exactly who I was speaking of if you heard me say those words; The King of Pop.
Something hit me as I listened to one of the many news reports today. It went something like this, “The self-proclaimed King of Pop has died.”
Self-proclaimed. That’s what stuck for me. It made me think about other performers I’ve heard interviewed, who are also self-proclaimed; Prince of this, Queen of this, or even Elvis, simply the King.
Michael Jackson was the King of Pop. He believed it. His fans and others believed it. Maybe one lesson we can learn from this story is to proclaim yourself. Proclaim yourself to be the Ruler of Relationships, the Guru of Retail, the Diva of Dance, the Expert on Managing Celebrities, the Professor of In-line Skating. Whatever your passion is, try to proclaim yourself as the person you desire to be. You have every right in the universe to do so.

I think what his death, and the utter disrespect thus far from the media and public alike, has shown is that there is no room in life to allow people define you or scum bags weasel into your life.
In life and death he is dogged by speculation that he was a child molester. Even though he was acquitted he was still considered by many to be a child molester. What he should have done was spend every last second of his life making sure he went after all and anyone who dared say he did these horrible things.
He would have died happier! Way way happier!
