Dream. Dream big. Follow that dream and if it changes along the way, thank the universe for such expansive potential for you. Live. Enjoy. Be at peace.
I love travel. I think one reason is that it can in a short time, demonstrate the concept of change.
There are plenty of other reasons. Opportunities to meet new people, see new or favorite places, food, fun, sights and sounds. It’s easy for me to come up with a list.
At the heart of it all is change. A change in route equals a change in perspective.
Next time you feel stuck, try traveling; across the continent or just take a new route down the street. Travel for an hour or a few days, and see what it means to you.
Here’s a quick and simple exercise. One, because I like quick and simple. And two, because sometimes you just need to get moving and not bogged down in the planning of life.
Take out some paper and a pen. Write down a list of things you hope to accomplish someday. Write fast and put down everything that comes to mind, big and small. Don’t edit. Just write. After about 5 minutes, put the pen down and turn the paper over. Don’t look at.
Take another 5 minute break. Go do somethinbg for a few minutes. The idea here is not to think about your list, but to get your concious mind focused on something else, even if it’s just getting a drink of water or taking a walk outside. Don’t worry, your subconscious mind is always working, and doing plenty with that list you wrote, right beneath your conscious awareness.
OK, so 5 more minutes have passed. Go back to your paper with the list. Turn it over, and scan it. Circle 3 items that jump to mind. Do this quickly. there is no right or wrong. Follow your intuition.
Now look at those 3 items circles. Put a star next one of them. Just one, any one. Now, you have it, an item that has importance to you to achieve. Don’t criticize this item you circled. Don’t demean it by saying I don’t really want it. Cherish it as something that came more from your true self than your rational mind, especially if you did this exercise quickly.
Take this item and write one sentence in the present tense the you have achieved this. Write on something you can keep with you this week. I like note cards for this, but anything you’re going to take with you works. I also use my mobile phone to keep notes like this.
So what should your note look like? Depending on what you wrote and starred, something like this:
Item starred: I want to loose weight. Sentence: I’m at my ideal weight.
Item starred: Get a better paying job. Sentence: I have a well paying great job.
Hopefully, you get the idea. Now just one more thing to make this even more powerful.
Write that you appreciate or are grateful for what you have. Write it in a way that feels good to you. Here’s and example with one of the sentences above: “I’m grateful to the universe that I’m at my ideal weight.”
Now, this entire process can take less than 20 minutes. Try it.
Let me know how it works for you.
Frustration is a choice. Sure, it’s a feeling too, one that may sweep across your emotions when something doesn’t go the way you think it should. But, what if everything happens exactly as it should? What if your focus is on such a brief minutia of time that you aren’t seeing the ultimate good of the path your on? What if you are so frustrated that you focus more on the frustration than the big picture?
It becomes a circle of frustration leading to more frustration. Stop over-thinking.
Start feeling what’s in your soul, not the surface stuff. Step back emotionally, breathe deep and the tentacles of frustration and worry will begin to unravel. If you decide to let them of course.
I’ve been trying to make some important decisions lately. I make lists. There are pros. There are cons. There are consequences I anticipate with each decision.
That’s how our minds work. Isn’t it? We can be so rational. But that’s only part of the story.
We have a more free aspect to who we are. The rational brain isn’t the only thing in control. You know that already. It’s just that we elevate the rational to such a high position.
As I stop making my lists and decision trees, I find decisions best followed are those that come from my intuition.
I’ll let the rational mind help me execute the details, relegate it to part two of the decision process. Part one belongs to my soul and my intuition.
Did you know that volunteerism goes up markedly during touch economic times? It’s true.
In the May 18 issue of New York Magazine, studies are cited which show volunteering to major charities going way up as employment in the city has fallen. Another interesting piece of information is that violent crime goes down. Something to think about.
